French Friday at The LaunchPad
We welcome Ms Laure Klughertz to the Early Years Team on Fridays. A native French speaker and teacher who has taught in International Schools, she and Miss Baker have designed a "dual-language" flow for the day that ensures the British EYFS curriculum is delivered through a French linguistic lens.
They have designed the day to ensure that French is woven into everything we do, from the moment the children arrive until they head home.
- A Warm Bienvenue: Ms Baker greets you at the gate, and Laure is at the door to welcome the children into the classroom in French.
- Morning Songs & Stories: While the older children are in assembly, Laure leads our younger children in "Good Morning" and "Days of the Week" songs. Then we enjoy a French story.
- Integrated Learning: Laure leads specific Language and Maths sessions for the older children (alternating weeks).
- Active French: During PE, Laure follows our standard UK curriculum but delivers the instructions in French—a fantastic way for the children to learn "action" words!
- Continuous Immersion: Throughout the day, during continuous play and transition times, Laure speaks to the children in French and Ms Baker in English, helping them practise common phrases and vocabulary naturally. Sometimes this involves a walk in the forest.
A Rich and Engaging Curriculum
The department's dedication to excellence has resulted in a remarkable track record of success. Students consistently achieve high scores in French examinations, at IGCSE and A Level. Many have gone on to pursue further studies in French or related fields.
Our students are excelling in French AS and A2 Level, consistently surpassing their expected levels. They are performing well above both the school and national averages, with all Year 12 students demonstrating impressive achievements.
Our success stems from an approach to language learning that goes beyond simply delivering knowledge—it actively engages students in their learning process. Through a diverse range of activities, including role-plays, speaking practice, and research projects on IAS/IAL topics, we foster independent learning.
