Exceptional Student Performance in Exams at Mougins British International School
Julie Dufaye

Many of you will by now have seen our wonderful results this year.

First and foremost, huge congratulations go to our students, who worked tirelessly to reach—and in many cases unlock and exceed—their individual potential.

Of course, such achievements are never made alone. I pay tribute to our outstanding staff: teachers, tutors, heads of key stage, deputy heads, and heads of school. Each day, I take pride in witnessing the collaborative teamwork at every level of our community, all dedicated to supporting our students’ pathways.

It is often said that comparison is the enemy of happiness. While there is truth in this, we can also learn much from reflecting on our ongoing success.

Each year group brings with it a different blend of aptitudes, experiences, and attitudes. This reminds us just how powerful a positive approach to learning can be in shaping outcomes.

Another point worth noting is the impact of post-results processes. Each year, students request remarks, and many see their grades lifted as a result of being near a boundary. This trend is increasingly common worldwide.

Yet beyond the finer details, several key markers stand out.

  • Our results collectively and consistently exceed UK averages at both GCSE and A Level, by a significant margin.
  • We achieve this with a richly diverse, international cohort—something that is a true testament to our students, our staff, and our wider school community.
  • Our students secure places at an impressive range of higher education institutions—universities, colleges, and technical colleges—often winning their first-choice destinations.

Students who remain with us through GCSEs and into A Levels continue to surpass their own ambitious goals year after year. And each year, the question we pose to the next cohort—without leaning too heavily on comparison—is simple:

"What can we do together to help you match, or even exceed, this success?"

The answer, as always, lies not only in statistics but in the qualitative qualities that underpin success: hard work, application, resilience, and the energy to strive for the very best.

With our dedicated staff and the strength of our community, I look forward with great enthusiasm to supporting this year’s exam students as they aim for even greater heights.
