Med Cup 2025: A Celebration of Sportsmanship and Determination
Julie Dufaye
At Mougins British International School, sport is more than just an activity—it’s a mindset. It’s about growth, teamwork, leadership, and resilience. These values were on full display at this year’s Med Cup Football Tournament, where our Secondary students competed with heart, skill, and true Mougins spirit.
A Strong Start on Day One
From the first whistle, our students proved they belonged on the international stage.
-
The boys’ team delivered a solid performance, finishing 3rd in their group of 6 with two wins, two draws, and one narrow defeat. They beat Berlin BS (3-0), SLS Milan Colonna (1-0), and held ACS Tunis and SGIS Luxembourg to draws.
-
The girls’ team dominated, winning their group undefeated with four wins and one draw—shutting out Berlin BS (2-0), IS Monaco (4-0), Geneva Lancy (1-0), and SLS Milan Colonna (3-0), before drawing 0-0 with Ambrit IS Rome.
This earned the boys a spot in the Champions Cup, the second-highest league of the tournament, and the girls a prestigious place in the Elite Cup, the top tier. It was a thrilling start, and we couldn’t have been prouder.
A Challenging Day Two—But Spirits Unbroken
Sport isn’t only about victory—it’s about perseverance. Day two brought tougher results: both teams fought hard but unfortunately ended the day with losses. Still, their dedication never wavered.
The boys finished the day with a tense 0-0 draw, leading to a dramatic penalty shootout against SLS Milan Caviglia. After nine nerve-wracking penalties each, they narrowly lost 7-8—a moment that tested nerves and showed immense character. They moved on to play for 3rd place in the Silver Champions Cup.
The girls also gave their all and earned the chance to play for 3rd place in the Silver Elite Cup.
A Bittersweet Final Morning
In their final matches, both teams gave their best performances yet, never giving up despite the stakes. They played with pride, finishing:
-
4th in the Silver Champions Cup (placing 16th out of 31 teams overall) for the boys.
-
4th in the Silver Elite Cup for the girls, who achieved an outstanding 8th place out of 23 teams.
A special mention goes to Nelly, our girls’ team striker, who was named Top Scorer of the Tournament—a well-deserved honour!
And as one student told us during our last lunch at the hotel:
“This was the best weekend of my life.”
That says it all.
Sport at Mougins British International School: A Cornerstone of Our Education
Events like the Med Cup are a reflection of our broader commitment to sport at Mougins. Whether through regular PE lessons, inter-school competitions, or our THRIVE after-school programme, our students have countless opportunities to develop their athletic passions and life skills.
From football to volleyball, from cross-country to netball, our school promotes physical education as a vital part of holistic development. Students in Years 12 and 13 can even study for a BTEC in Sport alongside A-levels, combining academic focus with athletic excellence.
We also nurture future talent through strong partnerships with local sports clubs like Cannes and Antibes athletics clubs—helping our athletes perform at their peak.
