Eco-Schools 2025-2026: Focusing on Health
Julie Dufaye

Last year, Mougins British International School proudly received the Gold Eco-Schools Label, an outstanding distinction within the international Eco-Schools programme. This recognition celebrated our commitment to sustainability, with a special focus on food and nutrition. This year, we continue our Eco-Schools journey by focusing on Health.

Health Subthemes in Focus

Seven key subthemes will guide our work this year:

  • Awareness and Information – developing knowledge to make responsible health choices.
  • Air Quality – promoting clean air for concentration and long-term health.
  • Comfort – ensuring safe, supportive learning and social spaces.
  • Physical Activity – regular movement to build strength and wellbeing.
  • Environment – how natural and built surroundings influence health.
  • Nutrition / Food – balanced diets to support growth and focus.
  • School Climate – fostering a respectful, inclusive community.

What We Are Doing Already

Our Eco-Delegates have started investigating what is already in place and where we can improve. Activities include:

  • Learning walks around the school
  • Student interviews
  • Tally charts and data collection

Examples of current actions: better ventilation and low-emission furniture to improve air quality; healthy and varied meals; regular sport and relaxation practices; and dedicated spaces for rest and social interaction, helping create a calmer school climate.

Upcoming Events & Initiatives

  • Our Green Stories – Climate Storytelling Conference — 10 October 2025 (online)
  • World Food Day — 16 October 2025: activities, special video, and a poster contest (deadline 7 November 2025)
  • Composting Project — Thanks to Mr Andrews and Year 9: students will manage composting twice a week with the canteen.

Why Health & Wellbeing Matter

At Mougins British International School, health and wellbeing underpin learning and personal growth. Measures such as improved air quality, nutritious food choices, physical activity, and spaces for relaxation foster focus, connection, and a more positive school climate.

Conclusion

With the creativity and dedication of our Eco-Delegates, alongside the entire school community, we look forward to making meaningful progress in Health and Wellbeing this year.
