Mougins British International School Tackles Food Waste with Eco Project 2024-25
Carmen Burgués
This year, we’re thrilled to kick off our Eco School Project, focusing on food: sustainable nutrition and healthy eating habits within our school community. Our goals are ambitious and inspiring: improving how we manage organic waste in our cafeteria, all while emphasizing the importance of balanced and seasonal menus. Together, we will make a real difference for our planet!
Strengthening Global Connections for a Greener Future: Our Rome Field Trip
A particularly exciting aspect of this project is our Eco delegates trip to Rome International School in November. We can’t wait to collaborate in the "Zero Plastic" initiative, sharing ideas and strategies to cut down on plastic usage in the canteen and across our school. This partnership will not only broaden our perspectives but also strengthen our commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
Empowering Our Community to Reduce Food Waste
To ensure the success of this project, we need everyone’s involvement. We’ll start by conducting surveys to better understand how much food is being wasted in our cafeteria. Every action counts, and by already offering balanced, seasonal dishes in our menu, we’ve made great strides in reducing waste. However, we are committed to refining our approach even further, ensuring that we continue to minimise waste and make the most of our resources.
Optimising Organic Waste Management for a Sustainable Future
This project presents a unique opportunity to transform how we consume and manage our resources. Every member of our school community (students, teachers, and staff) plays a vital role in this initiative. Together, we will enhance our organic waste management, ensuring that we optimize our compost production, and make the most of our food resources.
Achieving Our Goal: Securing a New Eco School Label
As we embark on this meaningful journey, our goal is to earn another Eco School label by the end of the year. But beyond the label, what truly matters is the positive impact we have on the environment and the collective awareness we create. With collective dedication and teamwork, we are confident that we can drive lasting change! Let’s embrace this challenge with enthusiasm, knowing that we are building a better future together!
