The Journey: A Spectacular Week in London for Year 9 & 10
Julie Dufaye

At Mougins British International School, learning goes far beyond the classroom—and nothing proves that better than The Journey, our signature programme of immersive trips and experiences designed to inspire adventure, curiosity, and personal growth.

This week, our Year 9 and 10 students travelled to London for an unforgettable exploration of the city’s theatrical brilliance and Olympic legacy. Under the radiant London sun, and guided by teachers Mary Garvey, Valentina Deidda, David Derham, and Siobhan Mannion, students took part in a dynamic five-day programme that combined culture, creativity, and adrenaline in equal measure.

From the moment they arrived, the weather was as bright as their enthusiasm — a week of clear blue skies set the perfect tone for the incredible experiences to come.

🛥 Day 1 began with a boat ride up the Thames, offering views of London’s rich historical and modern skyline. The adventure continued with a thrilling climb over the O2 Arena — giving everyone a true bird's-eye view of the city.

⚽️ Day 2 took students behind the scenes at Wembley Stadium, where they stepped into the players’ dressing rooms and walked the legendary tunnel to the pitch. In the afternoon, things got a bit theatrical (and physical!) with a stage combat workshop near Bond Street, learning how to “fight” safely like pros.

🌊 Day 3 brought adrenaline and teamwork at the Olympic White Water Centre in Cheshunt, where the students tackled rapids in a whitewater rafting session. After drying off, they attended a hands-on theatre workshop — preparing for the evening’s spectacular show: Hamilton, the award-winning musical that left everyone inspired.

🚴 Day 4 included a visit to the Olympic Velodrome, where students cycled at high speed under expert guidance. The afternoon brought creativity to the forefront during a costume design workshop, before ending the day with a magical performance of Romeo & Juliet at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

🎡 Day 5 offered a final high point — quite literally — with a ride on the London Eye, giving students a last sweeping view of the city before heading home.
