Exploring Art Beyond the Classroom: Year 11 and 12 Students Visit FAMM Museum in Mougins
Julie Dufaye
Our Year 11 and 12 art students had the exciting opportunity to step outside the classroom and immerse themselves in the vibrant world of contemporary art with a guided gallery tour and hands-on activity at the FAMM Museum in Mougins. Located in the heart of the picturesque Mougins village, FAMM is known for its dynamic collection of female artists, showcasing diverse works that challenge perceptions and inspire creativity. This enriching experience aligns with our commitment at Mougins School to provide students with opportunities that extend their learning beyond the classroom and foster their artistic development.
As part of our commitment to providing a rounded art education, we believe it is essential for students to engage with art beyond the walls of the classroom. By visiting galleries and interacting with artworks in person, students can draw inspiration from the world around them and gain valuable insights into the creative processes of other artists. Our trip to FAMM was a perfect example of this ethos in action.
The students were guided through the museum's current exhibition, which highlights the incredible contributions of female artists to contemporary art. The works on display ranged from powerful visual statements to thought-provoking installations, each piece offering a unique perspective on identity, society, and the human experience. This experience allowed our students to see how other artists approach themes, materials, and techniques, expanding their understanding of what is possible within the field of art.
After the tour, students participated in a hands-on activity inspired by the exhibition. This practical session encouraged them to apply their observations and ideas from the tour to their own creative practice. Students experimented with various materials and techniques, exploring how they could express their own thoughts and responses to the artwork they had seen.
At the FAMM Museum, our students were able to witness firsthand the importance of context and presentation in the curatorial process. By engaging directly with the art, they developed a deeper appreciation for its scale, texture, and composition. The trip also sparked insightful discussions about the role of art in society, the impact of female artists, and how art education extends beyond the classroom.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful reflections throughout the day. Experiences like this are invaluable in shaping their creative journey, allowing them to connect theory with practice and gain inspiration for their future work.
As part of our ongoing commitment to enriching our students' education, we look forward to more art excursions that will continue to inspire and inform their artistic development. These trips not only provide practical learning experiences but also offer opportunities for students to engage with the art world in a meaningful and impactful way.
