Mougins School Welcomes Expert Guest for Year 13 Psychology
Julie Dufaye

At Mougins British International School, we believe that education comes alive when students can connect what they learn in class to real-world practice. This week, our Year 13 Psychology students had the chance to experience exactly that during a special visit from an industry expert working at the intersection of mental health, neuroscience, and emerging technologies.

Bringing Psychology to Life

As part of their Clinical Psychology unit, students are currently studying Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). To deepen their understanding, we invited Mr Furness, a professional developing new approaches to mental-health treatment using AI and research on the brain’s energy systems.

His talk transformed complex science into clear, practical insights, showing students how modern psychology blends biology, technology, and patient care.

Tips: Your brain is highly energy-demanding—small changes in sleep, nutrition, or stress can affect how well it works. Taking care of your body helps your mind stay sharp!

Learning Beyond the Textbook

During the session, students discovered:

  • how different areas of the brain contribute to OCD
  • why energy production inside brain cells matters for mental health
  • how AI is beginning to support personalised treatment
  • how researchers, clinicians, and technology teams collaborate

These ideas were not presented as theory, but as real challenges and real solutions being developed by today’s mental-health professionals.
Experiences like this show students that psychology is more than theory—it’s a dynamic field that can change lives through science and innovation.

Empowering Students Through Expert Encounters

At Mougins School, inviting guest speakers is an essential part of our educational philosophy.

We bring in experts to:

  • show students the relevance of what they’re learning
  • expose them to innovative careers
  • spark curiosity and critical thinking
  • build confidence through meaningful dialogue with professionals

Our Year 13 students asked thoughtful, challenging questions—demonstrating how much they have already mastered and how eager they are to explore further.
