Spanish cooking lesson
  • Secondary Matters
Carmen Burgues

As you probably know, Spanish food is known around the world. The Mediterranean diet was recognised by the UNESCO as part Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2010. (1)

In the Spanish lessons we share this passion of our culture and traditions. This is why from year 7 to 9 the students have online cooking lessons in Spanish on some Saturdays. We cook panellets, typical catalan cakes traditionally made for the 1st of November with years 7 and 8. It is an easy recipe and the Students can decorate the cakes with Halloween motifs. We also prepare some Spanish tapas: Spanish omelette and pan con tomates with year 9 as “food and cooking” are part of the curriculum this year.

The aim of the online lessons is to turn the activity into a social event. The students can invite other Spanish students to their houses and do the cooking together. It is also a way of doing safe activities in this period of covid.

During the Spanish trips in February and June 2022 Spanish students of the years 10, 12 and 13 will have the opportunity to improve their Spanish language skills and cooking techniques with cooking lessons in Barcelona. They will have a lesson with a Spanish chef and during 3 hours they will prepare a typical Spanish lunch with 3 courses, maybe gazpacho, paella and crema catalana. The lessons start in the morning. We go to the market in order to  taste and buy some of the ingredients and afterwards the different teams prepare the meal following the chef's instructions. At the end we really enjoy our dishes having a big lunch together.

What an amazing experience! We did these activities in previous years and students always remember the great fun they had.

¡BUEN PROVECHO!
