This week, our eco-delegates had the incredible opportunity to travel to Rome to visit our sister school RIS (Rome International School), a pioneer in eco-friendly education for over seven years. This trip is part of our ongoing commitment to the Eco-School initiative, which involves students, parents, and staff in creating a more sustainable environment within our school community.

Eco trip to RIS rome from mougins school students

At RIS, our students were warmly welcomed and immersed in various activities designed to inspire and educate. They met with RIS eco-delegates, the "Ambassadors of Tomorrow," who shared insights into their long-standing sustainability projects, including their impactful Zero Plastic campaign. Our students participated in trash collection around the school, worked alongside younger students in their vegetable garden, and exchanged ideas during discussions over tea and cake.

In addition to learning from RIS’s eco-friendly practices, the trip allowed our students to explore some of Rome’s iconic landmarks, such as the Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel, providing a rich cultural experience alongside their environmental mission.

Students enthusiastically share their thoughts on their trip to Rome and visit to RIS: reflections that highlight the impact of this unique experience.

Dunia: "We learned so much about how to be a school that has the environment’s best interest in mind and we’re eager to implement some of their eco-ideas in our school."
Nia: "Overall, it was a fantastic experience and it was really helpful to learn from them, and now, hopefully, we can put to good use all the ideas we exchanged!"

Alexia: "We spoke with some of the kids in their eco council, they shared with us their future ideas for their school and we did the same."
Anika: "We talked about how we could improve the environment at our school and picked up trash on the streets around their school."
Marguerite: "This visit additionally helped us to develop a clear action plan for the next few years."
Aleen: "It’s been a fantastic experience and we’re all grateful to have been lucky enough to have this experience! We can’t wait for them to come visit us!"
Sophie: "This activity gave us the chance to help the school and showed us how small actions can make a big difference."
Sophie A: "We discussed the similarities and differences between our schools’ approaches to sustainability during a delightful tea and cake session."
Andrea: "We are all very grateful for their accommodating attitude and for allowing us to experience their beautiful campus and community! Grazie!"

This exchange was an invaluable opportunity to see how another eco-school functions, gather inspiration, and develop actionable ideas to bring back to our school. We are proud of our eco-delegates for representing our school with enthusiasm and look forward to implementing some of these new ideas as part of our Eco-School programme this year.
