The Learning Curve

Mougins School Science on Stage
Zara Lou McGrath

Throughout the week, Primary science students had the opportunity to welcome Science on Stage Speaker Michael Gregory. Mr Gregory is the French Ambassador for Science on Stage where he shares hands-on science with teachers across Europe and beyond.

Mr Gregory is the French Ambassador for Science on Stage where he shares hands-on science with teachers across Europe and beyond. Mr Gregory also has a  project called  “My Favourite Experiments”, where he has biked across over 30 countries asking teachers to share their favourite experiments for him to share forward as the adventure continues. This summer he will once more bike through a dozen or so countries, this time including his new science show « Experiments – World Tour ».

He demonstrated science experiments related to the lessons being taught in class as well as experiments he’s learned travelling throughout the world on his cycling tours. Experiments ranged from LED light projection to explain primary colours, weight distribution through gravity using a pendulum and introduction to chemistry with ethanol and fire, etc.

After showing our primary students experiments based on their lessons, he demonstrated different experiments he has learned along the way of his “My Favourite Experiments” World Tour. Each experiment was accompanied with a historical lesson on the origins of that country’s science discoveries.

Watch the video below to see some of the performed experiments with our Year 5 and Year 6 classes:
